WHAT IS FUSED GLASS?

Fused glass (Warm Glass) is not stained glass (Cold) or blown glass (Hot). Quite simply it is the art of changing sheets of glass, glass billets, and/or ground up glass into one piece of solid glass in a kiln. The pieces on the right started as a solid sheets of glass cut into a circle. Pieces of glass known as frit of various grades were then applied onto the solid base. That glass was then fired (heated) in a kiln to around 1400 degrees F for an extended time. After cooling the new solid piece was then placed on a mold and fired again at a lower temp to slump into the shape of the mold. The complete process can take from one day to a week or more depending on the thickness of the piece  and the complexity of the design.

I hope you enjoy my glass art. I strive to produce quality pieces. Because glass has a mind of it's own, most pieces are unique and cannot be exactly recreated. Stay tuned as I add examples of my pieces in the next few months.
